Applying disciplinary research methods

Research Assistant Project: Stand with Ukraine

Spreadsheet: BC Stands with Ukraine, data collection for e-Book.

I am collecting data for an e-Book that is being written by Dr. Oleksandr Kondrashov that shares how British Columbian communities and individuals have supported Ukraine following the Russian invasion of 2022. My role in the research project has so far been to meticulously search for articles or webpages sharing information about local projects intended to support Ukrainians, and list my findings in an Excel spreadsheet.

Interviews for Social Entrepreneurship project: service dogs

The files supplied are written notes from interviews with individuals in the guide dog industry while speaking through the telephone; one interview (Pascal) was in person.

Men’s Mental Health- their way: UREAP survey and consent forms

‘Men’s Mental Health- their way”Men’s Mental Health- their way’ used data collected both second and first hand. A review of existing literature into male specific men’s health statistics, issues of note, and treatment attendance and preferences was conducted to inform the study. The study was also guided by the researcher’s lived experience and observations over the years prior to applying for UREAP. New data was collected through a mixed methods survey that collected both quantitative and qualitative data for the study.

TRU- PLAR

I am still involved with the PLAR research team in assessing the qualitative data collected through text responses from the 2023 study, as well as comparing the findings from the qualitative feedback to the results from past research into PLAR and the quantitative findings from the same study. Along with conducting literature reviews and write ups, I was also involved in coding, tagging, and analyzing the results both individually, and then with the team during group discussions. This research project was useful in discovering more effective ways to convert qualitative data into something measurable. I also gained experience using Excel spreadsheets, Survey Monkey, and triangulation with a team to assess and interpret qualitative data accurately.
